The Ficus microcarpa, also known as the Chinese Banyan or Indian Laurel Fig, is one of the most popular indoor bonsai. In the photo you see a tree with a beautiful tiered crown — the foliage arranges itself in several green, dense layers above one another. The individual leaves are small, oval and slightly glossy.
Particularly characteristic is the light grey trunk with the pronounced, visible roots at its base. They spread outwards and give the tree a very strong character.
The Ficus microcarpa is robust and forgives small mistakes in care. It likes a bright spot, ideally with a little morning sun, but no harsh midday sun. With watering, we keep the soil lightly moist without it sitting wet. We briefly dip the root ball into room-temperature water every few days. If it sheds leaves, that is often just a reaction to a change of location — it usually recovers on its own.
A little humidity does it good, particularly in winter above a heater. Occasional misting of the leaves helps.
The bonsai is delivered in a flat bonsai dish, as shown in the photo. The dish may differ slightly from the photo.
