The Parlour Palm (Chamaedorea elegans) is one of the friendliest house plants we know. In the photo you see a compact, bushy plant with fine, feathered fronds spreading loosely outwards. Several slender stems come straight from the soil, topped with a dense green tuft.
The individual leaflets are narrow, soft and dark green — typical for the Parlour Palm, which grows beneath larger trees in its natural habitat.
That is exactly what makes it so rewarding in the living room as well. It likes light but copes with less. It does not enjoy direct midday sun. A bright spot in the bathroom, hallway, or partially shaded living room works well. With watering, we keep the soil evenly slightly moist. About once a week is usually enough, slightly less in winter. We pour off any standing water from the decorative pot.
A little humidity does it good, especially in winter. A short misting with soft water helps.
The Parlour Palm is delivered in a light beige ceramic decorative pot, as shown in the picture, with small decorative stones on the soil surface. The decorative pot may differ slightly from the photo.
