The Red Begonia (Begonia elatior) is in full bloom in the photo. You see densely packed, vivid red double flowers with several layers of delicate petals that open like small rose blossoms. The leaves underneath are dark green, slightly heart-shaped, and finely toothed at the edges.
The plant is compact, bushy and richly covered in flowers — it blooms for several weeks, sometimes months, when it stands in a suitable spot.
Begonias like a bright place but no direct midday sun. A bright table, a window with a curtain, or a bright corner in the living room all work well. We water it sparingly — the soil should only be lightly moist, never wet. We prefer to water from below into the decorative pot, pouring off any excess after a short while.
You can carefully remove faded blooms regularly; that keeps the plant fresh and encourages new flowers.
The Begonia is delivered in a beige-grey speckled ceramic decorative pot, as shown in the picture. The decorative pot may differ slightly from the photo.
