How much does a funeral wreath cost? Prices & overview
A transparent breakdown of funeral flower costs
Funeral wreaths in different price ranges
When someone passes away, many decisions have to be made. If you would like to order a funeral wreath, it is understandable to ask about the cost. Here you can find out how the prices are made up and which options are available for every budget.
What influences the price?
A funeral wreath is entirely handcrafted and requires a great deal of experience from the florist. In terms of price, a finished wreath for the funeral is made up of several components:
- The diameter: A small urn wreath (approx. 40 cm) requires significantly less material than a substantial casket wreath with a diameter of 90 cm.
- The type of arrangement: An asymmetrically arranged wreath (flower only at the top or side, with the rest in fine fir greenery) is more affordable than a full Biedermeier-style wreath, which is completely and densely covered with flower.
- The choice of flower: Local, seasonal flower such as outdoor-grown chrysanthemums or carnations are more affordable than large-headed premium roses, exotic orchids, or rare lilies.
- The funeral ribbon: Printing the ribbon tails with personal words is often included in the overall calculation. With us, a standard ribbon is usually already included.
Wreath types and typical costs
As funeral wreath costs can vary greatly, this table is intended as an initial, rough guide for Vienna and Austria. (Please note: florists calculate individually based on daily flower market prices.)

| Asymmetrical, medium | 60–70 cm | Price on request | Extended family, companies |
| Full wreath (densely arranged) | 60–80 cm | Price on request | Immediate family |
| Full wreath, very lush | 80–100 cm | Price on request | Representative (companies, associations) |
| Urn wreath / heart | 40–50 cm | Price on request | Urn grave, spouse |

Dignified alternatives to a large budget
A farewell does not have to exceed your financial limits to be stylish and respectful. Here are a few tips from the world of floristry:
- Use seasonal flower: Choose flower that are currently growing in the fields. In spring, that means tulips; in autumn, dahlias. This can noticeably reduce the cost of goods.
- Pooling together: Order as a group! A beautiful, high-quality communal wreath with the inscription "The Neighborhood" or "The Colleagues" is often more meaningful than many very small, inexpensive wreaths.
- The condolence bouquet alternative: If your budget is tight, a lying condolence bouquet (approx. 40 to 70 euros) is a beautiful and entirely dignified alternative to a large wreath. It is placed at the grave with the same honor.
Who traditionally gives what?
In Austria, there are a few unwritten rules about who typically contributes what when it comes to funeral flowers:
- Partners & children: Often give the largest and most magnificent wreath (frequently with deep red roses) or an elaborate casket spray.
- Siblings & grandchildren: Usually contribute together for a medium-sized, elegant full wreath.
- Friends & neighbors: Often choose asymmetrically arranged wreaths or place a beautiful condolence bouquet at the grave.
- Employers & associations: Usually order representative funeral wreaths in their company or association colors.
